Cosmi Player Privacy Policy

Effective date: 6 October 2026

This revision describes Cosmi Player 1.1.0.0.

Who we are and what this policy covers

Cosmi Player is a Windows media player published under the Cosmisan brand. It plays media from sources you add and supports local media buffering and recordings. Cosmisan does not supply media subscriptions or a content service through the app.

In this policy, “Cosmisan”, “we” and “us” refer to the publisher of Cosmi Player. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@cosmisan.com.

This policy covers the app with its bundled playback components and support correspondence about it. Independently installed replacement playback components may handle data differently. Website visits and any future direct-sales or online-account services need their own applicable privacy information. The app currently does not require a Cosmisan account or provide cloud synchronization.

Information used on your device

The app uses the information needed to provide the features you choose:

  • Media sources: playlist files and addresses, server addresses, usernames, passwords or access tokens where required, media addresses, item names, categories, artwork addresses and programme information.
  • Preferences and library information: favorites, the ten most recently watched channel identifiers and their order for each playlist, hidden items, ordering, refresh preferences, playback and appearance settings, recording locations, and last detected media resolution with its check time.
  • Movies and series: cached provider catalogues, descriptions, posters, categories, seasons and episode details. The app saves viewing position, duration, watched status and the time of the progress update locally so you can resume a movie or episode and use Continue watching. This also includes watched/unwatched choices you make.
  • Artwork cache: downloaded channel logos and movie/series artwork can be kept on your device between sessions to reduce repeated downloads.
  • Buffered media and recordings: temporary media used for playback buffering, recordings you start, and recording information such as names, dates, duration, file sizes and interruption status.
  • Local performance information: a small startup report containing fixed operation names, elapsed times and startup outcome. The app overwrites this report rather than keeping a growing history. It does not include source credentials, media addresses or media names.

These records support playback, browsing, refreshing your sources, remembering settings, managing recordings and troubleshooting startup performance. They are stored in the app’s data area or your chosen recording location. The app does not upload these records to Cosmisan.

Connections to media services

When you add, refresh, browse or play a source, the app may contact the addresses you entered and addresses supplied by that source. This includes servers for media, playlists, movie and series catalogues and episode details, programme information and artwork, and destinations reached through redirects. Refreshes can run automatically according to your settings. Artwork may be requested when items are displayed, before you play them. Saving viewing progress does not send that progress to Cosmisan; media services can still observe the requests made to their own servers.

Those services receive your IP address and the information needed for the request, such as the requested address, software request headers and any credentials or tokens included in it. Artwork and other supporting information may come from different organizations than the media itself. Some connections can use temporary session cookies in memory to communicate with the remote service.

These connections go to the relevant services, rather than through a Cosmisan media server. Their operators control their own logging, retention and use of the information they receive. Their privacy practices and processing locations may differ from ours. Use sources you trust and are entitled to access.

Security and encryption

Saved source credentials and addresses, media-item definitions, custom category definitions, movie/series catalogue and viewing-progress records, and the contents of cached artwork are protected using Windows encryption tied to your Windows user account. The app decrypts information when it needs to use it. Some database identifiers and file information remain visible. This protection is not encryption of every file or every field in the app’s database, and it does not protect against all access from software running as you or a compromised device.

This protection applies to saved copies in the app’s library; it does not encrypt original playlist files you import.

Ordinary settings, recent-channel identifiers and order, programme information, playback metadata, temporary media, recordings and recording metadata are not encrypted by the app. Windows device encryption or other protection you configure is separate.

The current app supports both HTTPS and HTTP sources. HTTPS encrypts the connection to the server; HTTP does not. A username, password, token or media request sent over HTTP can be exposed in transit. Other supported media protocols, including RTSP, UDP and RTP, may also be unencrypted. Encryption of saved credentials does not encrypt these network requests. Use HTTPS addresses where the service supports them.

Analytics and Microsoft services

The app does not include a Cosmisan advertising or usage-tracking service, and it does not automatically send crash reports or the local startup report to Cosmisan.

Microsoft Store and Windows may separately process purchase, installation, update, usage and diagnostic information under their own settings and Microsoft’s Privacy Statement. This is separate from the app’s local storage and network connections.

The bundled Microsoft .NET runtime can contribute error and crash information to Windows Error Reporting. Whether reports are sent and what they contain depend on the applicable Windows and Microsoft diagnostic settings and policies. This is Microsoft platform processing, not a separate Cosmisan crash-reporting service.

We use available Microsoft Partner Center reports about Store listing visits, acquisitions and installations, and app usage such as active devices, session counts and session duration. We also review customer ratings and written reviews. We use this information to understand how people discover and use Cosmi Player and to guide improvements. These are Microsoft-provided reports; the app does not add a separate Cosmisan tracking service or report which media you play for these purposes.

Our current reporting practice does not include using Partner Center’s crash and unresponsive-event reports or downloading crash dumps. This choice does not disable Microsoft’s own collection or processing of diagnostic information.

We view these reports, ratings and reviews within Microsoft Partner Center and do not download or export copies.

If you contact support

If you email support@cosmisan.com, we receive your email address, any name or message headers supplied with the email, and the message and attachments you choose to send. We use that information to respond to your enquiry and investigate the issue. Contacting support is optional. The app’s support button opens your email application; it does not automatically attach your library, credentials or recordings.

Please do not send passwords, access tokens, private media addresses or other information unnecessary for your enquiry. Check screenshots and attachments before sending them.

We retain ordinary support messages and their attachments for up to 12 months after the enquiry is resolved, then delete them from our active support records. We remove unnecessary sensitive attachments sooner. If specific records are needed for an ongoing dispute or a legal obligation, we retain only the relevant information for as long as that need applies.

Retention and your controls

Saved sources, settings and library information remain available between sessions. There is no single fixed expiry for all local library records. You can edit or delete a source through playlist management. Deleting a source removes its associated saved source, media-item, recent viewing history, movie/series catalogue and viewing progress, programme and customization records from the app’s active database. It does not delete the original playlist file or recordings you made. Artwork is kept in a shared local cache and may remain until that cache removes it under the limits below.

Movies and series provide controls to change watched status and remove saved viewing progress. Playing an item again can create new progress. The Continue watching filter changes which items are displayed; it is not a switch that disables progress saving.

Removing a source from Cosmi Player does not close your account with that service or delete information held by its operator.

You can change refresh settings, stop playback, disable the pause buffer, and delete recordings through the recording library. Stopping playback does not by itself disable separate background refreshes or artwork requests. Closing the app stops its ongoing network activity.

The temporary buffer has a storage limit. Older pieces are removed as the buffer fills, and remaining owned temporary files are removed when the session’s file handles close. Recordings are separate files and do not expire with that buffer; they remain until deleted.

Artwork is cached in memory and in the app’s local data area. The disk cache has limits of 512 MiB and 8,192 entries, with a 30-day lifetime for each downloaded copy. Older or less recently used entries are removed during cache maintenance as the app runs; files are not automatically erased while the app is closed. A later request may download the artwork again.

You can access recordings in your selected folder and review or change saved sources and preferences in the app. We cannot remotely access or delete data held only on your device. Deletion is not a guarantee of secure erasure from storage, backups or synchronized copies. Uninstalling should not be relied on to remove recordings or files you saved separately. If you use a synchronized, backed-up or network folder, that service may receive and retain copies under your settings.

Your privacy rights

For information you send us, contact support@cosmisan.com to ask about access, correction or deletion. Depending on applicable law, you may also have rights to restrict processing, obtain a portable copy, object to processing, withdraw consent where consent is the basis, or complain to a data-protection authority. Rights can be subject to legal conditions and exceptions. Requests about information held by a media service or Microsoft should be directed to that service.

Changes and contact

We will update this policy when the app’s data handling or our support practices change and show the updated effective date. Where applicable law requires additional notice or consent, that must be provided before the relevant change takes effect.
